The Senior Chemical Engineer will perform engineering work related to the operation of chemical plant equipment and processes. Preferred wide application of advanced principles, theories, and concepts in the propulsion field with a working knowledge of related disciplines such as thermal, structural, and ballistics analysis. Broad knowledge and experience with energetics, solid propellants and related materials, products. Substantial experience with physics-based modeling of related technologies such as polymer mechanics, environmental degradation and aging, combustion, detonation, particle packing, rheology. Substantial experience in one of the following preferred:
- Propellant/explosive formulation for product development, scale-up and manufacturing
- Energetic material manufacturing and synthesis
- Energetics material hazards analysis, testing and mitigation strategy development.
- Case bond line development, processing, and adhesion science
- Physical testing and characterization of propellant and subsystems
Major Position Responsibilities
- Works closely with manufacturing and design engineers to design, test, and implement chemical handling, processing, and dosing systems.
- General specification and sourcing of feedstock materials, identification of robust suppliers for program-associated propellant formulations.
- Conducts research and development projects involving the study of chemical reactions and material properties to innovate and develop new products or optimize existing products.
- Designs experiments and builds prototypes and models used to investigate and support the development of improved chemicals, materials, products, and manufacturing processes.
- Compiles and analyzes testing data.
- Presents research results used to estimate costs, establish performance standards, identify solutions, and facilitate processes.
- Maintains lab and plant safety procedures for chemical storage, handling, transport, and disposal.
- Complies with all safety and environmental regulations.
Colorado law requires us to tell you the base compensation range of this role, which is $101,000 - $137,000, determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
