Ursa Major’s Summer 2026 Internship Program offers students the opportunity to gain real-world experience in the aerospace and defense industry while contributing to meaningful, high-impact projects that support our mission and drive innovation in propulsion and advanced manufacturing. 

As member of the Solid Missile Systems team, the Systems Engineering Intern will gain experience in many aspects of systems engineering, including design, development, manufacturing and testing of solid rocket motors. This internship will have a strong focus on requirement development, verification planning, and risk analysis. 

In this role, you will engage in both collaborative projects and independent tasks, contributing to our dynamic work environment. You will have the opportunity to work closely with team members across different disciplines, allowing you to gain diverse perspectives and learn from experienced professionals. We value initiative and responsibility; you will have the chance to influence technical decisions and make a real impact.  

Key Responsibilities 

  • Interpret customer needs and evaluate team capability to create detailed and actionable requirements. 
  • Review test data and manufacturing processes to confirm validation of established requirements. 
  • Contribute to reliability assessment, failure mode analysis, and risk mitigation efforts. 
  • Develop and improve system engineering processes and tools. 
  • Provide flexible support for team projects as need emerges. 

Required Qualifications 

  • Pursing a background in systems engineering, mechanical, electrical, or aerospace engineering. 
  • Familiarity with systems engineering principles - design reviews, system requirements, verification and validation, and failure and risk assessments. 
  • Strong communication skills with ability to convey technical information in team settings. 
  • Confidence in developing processes and ability to work effectively in situations where procedures may not be established. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity in all its forms as well as contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment 
  • Demonstrates initiative and adopts a diligent approach to learning. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience with solid rocket motor systems. 
  • Proficiency in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE). 
  • Proficiency in requirements management tools such as DOORS, or Jama. 

Program Details: 

  • Location: On-site at our Berthoud, CO facility 
  • Duration: Approximately 10–12 weeks 
  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday 
  • This is a paid internship 

Colorado law requires us to tell you the base compensation range of this role, which is $29.00/hour, determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The salary range for this role is intentionally wide as we are evaluating individuals based on their unique experience and abilities to fit our needs.
