Ursa Major’s Summer 2026 Internship Program offers students the opportunity to gain real-world experience in the aerospace and defense industry while contributing to meaningful, high-impact projects that support our mission and drive innovation in propulsion and advanced manufacturing.
As an Test Engineering intern on a small, fast-moving team, you will be challenged with supporting the dynamic environment of our Test team. You will receive hands-on experience while helping solve difficult engineering problems. We thrive on giving ownership and authority, so you can expect to make decisions and make a difference!
Responsibilities:
- Perform rocket engine testing from the control room (console operator) and from the field
- Perform test stand and engine checkouts to verify proper functionality
- Ownership of several projects to design and fabricate fluid systems to support sub-component and/or engine level test objectives
- Operate and modify stand systems such as fluid systems, electrical systems, and supporting structures
- Develop methods to increase test cadence, test fidelity, and test stand capability without compromising operational safety
Required Qualifications:
- Background in mechanical, electrical, aerospace or similar engineering field.
- Must be an academic Junior and above by May 2026 (experience with Fluids, Mechanics of Materials, and other advanced classes)
- Excellent with first principle analysis with mechanical and/or fluid-based scenarios
- Hands-on build and/or test experience (design > build > test lifecycle of a project)
- Demonstrated teamwork and ability to communicate effectively in a group setting
- Drive to continuously improve technical and team skills
Desired Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience with testing high pressure gas systems, cryogenic systems, fuel systems, and propulsion systems
- Working knowledge of liquid rocket engines
- Experience with LabVIEW and National Instruments Hardware
- Experience with CAD software
Program Details:
- Location: On-site at our Berthoud, CO facility
- Duration: Approximately 10–12 weeks
- Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday
- This is a paid internship
Colorado law requires us to tell you the base compensation range of this role, which is $29.00/hour, determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
