Ursa Major’s Summer 2026 Internship Program offers students the opportunity to gain real-world experience in the aerospace and defense industry while contributing to meaningful, high-impact projects that support our mission and drive innovation in propulsion and advanced manufacturing. 

 As an Manufacturing Engineering Intern supporting our Liquids Manufacturing teams, you will be part of a small team focused on designing robust, automated, and operator focused production equipment. This position will provide experience designing tooling and fixtures as well as getting hands-on experience building equipment from the ground up. You will be exposed to designing in an aerospace production environment, P&ID layout, PLC controls, & industrial instrumentation. You will be engaged with technicians and propulsion design engineers to help deliver production-ready equipment to build the next generation of liquid propulsion engines.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design mechanical fixtures to support the production and qualification of liquid rocket engine components
  • Assist in building complex pneumatic, hydraulic, and cryogenic equipment, including framing, piping, wiring, and instrumentation installation
  • Collaborate with propulsion design engineers and engine build technicians to provide creative and robust solutions to the production line

Required Qualifications:

  • Background in mechanical, aerospace, or similar engineering field
  • Must be an academic Junior or above by May 2026 (experience with Fluids, Mechanics, and other advanced classes)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and eager for hands-on building
  • Hands-on build and/or test experience (design > build > test lifecycle of a project)
  • Demonstrated teamwork and ability to communicate effectively in a group setting
  • Drive to continuously improve technical and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with CAD software (Siemens NX preferred) and GD&T
  • Experience designing for 3D printing and rapid prototyping methodologies
  • Understanding of PLCs, instrumentation, pneumatics, and hydraulic systems
  • Familiarity with electrical panel and P&ID schematics

Program Details: 

  • Location: On-site at our Berthoud, CO facility 
  • Duration: Approximately 10–12 weeks 
  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday 
  • This is a paid internship 

Colorado law requires us to tell you the base compensation range of this role, which is $29.00/hour, determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The salary range for this role is intentionally wide as we are evaluating individuals based on their unique experience and abilities to fit our needs.
